General Company Inquires
1. Why you name your company "Mecca"?
Question:
Why you name your company "Mecca"?
Answer:
First of all, our company does not recite any religious significancy and/or any kinship to the Islamic world.

Notwithstanding, the word "mecca" itself does expound the meaning of "a center of activity sought as a goal by people sharing a common interest," "a place that many people like to visit, especially for a particular reason," and so forth. Moreover, there are also reasons that we have optated Mecca as our company's name:

3 "e"s
a) easy to spell,
b) easy to articulate, and
c) easy to reminisce

2 "p"s
a) pleasant to ear, and
b) positive connotations

Furthermore, as you may have apprehended it is rather arduous to optate an apt name for a company, particularly when there are numerous companies co-existing in the market. Thus, to distinct oneself from the commonplace, neither a generic nor descriptive will do. Just as the prominent "Apple" computer corporation and the giant "Amazon" online book store, both of them have nothing inherently to do with their companies' names, but good enough to engrave their names in their clients' mind/heart. In addition, you can simply recall "ehosting.ca is a MECCA for web hosting clients." Mecca is a "Dynamic", "Refreshing" and "Ingenious" and we are proud of our company.

Our superior technical support has been proven one of the best in Canada. We currently offer toll free phone support, livechat and email support. The speed of responding emails is also so fast that in most cases, you will receive an almost instant reply from our staff. Please take a look at the testimonials from our clients at http://www.ehosting.ca/about/testimony.php

2. Do you offer any referral program?
Question:
Do you offer any referral program?

Restrictions:

1. The referrer (i.e. Mecca eHosting.ca client) must first be one of our hosting clients whom has an account activated for over 14 days.

2. The referee (i.e. New customer) must reside his/her hosting account with us for over 14 days

To verify for the referral credit, please visit our Referral Centre at http://www.ehosting.ca/customerService/referralCentre.php.

The referrer will receive our notification within 60 days when all verifications are completed. Our billing department will then issue his/her credit plus our electronic statement shortly after.

11. Is the unlimited data transfer offer truly unlimited?
Question:
Is the unlimited data transfer offer truly unlimited?
Answer:
You must ensure that your activity while using the Services does not improperly restrict, inhibit or degrade any other Subscriber’s use of the Services, nor represent (in the sole judgment of Mecca) an unusually large burden on the network itself, such as, but not limited to, peer to peer file sharing programs, serving streaming video or audio, mail, http, ftp, chat rooms, and multi-user interactive forums.

Mecca reserves the right to set specific limits for Bandwidth Usage and charge for excessive Bandwidth Usage at any time. In addition, you must ensure that your activities do not improperly restrict, disrupt, inhibit, degrade or impede Mecca’s ability to deliver the Services and monitor the Services, backbone, network nodes, and/or other network services.

Specifically Unlimited Data Transfer offer is not provided to the below situations: :

a) Adult Content Mecca does not provide Unlimited Data Transfer to Subscriber who hosts sexual related websites. For any sexual related websites, Mecca covers only 10 GB of traffic each month for all hosting plans and additional traffic is CDN$12/GB/month. Please note that as stated in term (3), hosting picture/video posting forum with sexual content is prohibited;

b) Copyrighted Materials Mecca does not permit Subscriber to host third party copyrighted materials without appropriate permission and/or illegal materials, including but not limited to text, audio and video clips. Mecca reserves the right to terminate the Subscriber's account and charge the Subscriber $12/GB/month should we notice that the Subscriber is conducting the stated activities with our Service;

c) Medium/Large Scale Streaming Mecca does not permit Subscriber to stream audio/video files which attracts so many concurrent users on shared hosting platform. In addition each media clip is restricted to a maximum of 2 megabytes on shared hosting platform. Streaming media would degrade the overall server and network performance and will directly affect other clients on the same server. One must consider to use our dedicated hosting service for medium or large scale of streaming;

d) Mecca does not provide Unlimited Data Transfer to our dedicated server hosting and server co-location clients.

12. Does any of your web hosting packages support real audio/video streaming?
Question:
Does any of your web hosting packages support real audio/Video streaming?
Answer:
All of our hosting plans support audio/video streaming on both Microsoft Media and Real Media.

Please note that streaming video and audio do take up a lot of CPU and bandwidth resources so it is best to divide the media into several files and compress them to 1-2 MB per file. We do ban websites for sustained CPU and bandwidth usage due to streaming.

Also as per our Term of Service, Mecca ehosting.ca does not permit Subscriber to stream audio/video files which attracts so many concurrent users on shared hosting platform. Streaming media would degrade the overall server and network performance and will directly affect other clients on the same server. One must consider to use our dedicated hosting service for medium or large scale of streaming.

13. Do you support Microsoft SQL 2000?
Question:
Do you support Microsoft SQL 2000?
Answer:
Our PHP, ASP, .NET, Perl and ColdFusion support Microsoft SQL 2000.

Microsoft SQL is a bit more expensive than MySQL and MS Access database hosting due to the required licensing and maintenance costs. The price scheme for Microsoft SQL hosting is as follows:

DB Storage -> Monthly charge
25 MB -> $6.00
50 MB -> $12.00
100 MB -> $18.00
200 MB -> $24.00

Prices are in Canadian Funds and subject to 7% tax.

For a limited time:

[*] There's no setup fee for setting up the Microsoft SQL service.

[*] Advanced plan users will receive $6 discount / month for Microsoft SQL 2000 hosting service.

Unlike other competitors, we do not set restrictions on concurrent users nor CPU usage.

Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager is supported for managing the database remotely.

14. Is there a minimum time contract/commitment?
Question:
Is there a minimum time contract/commitment?
Answer:
Our ehosting.ca mini plan (the $3.95 plan) is a 12 month prepaid plan. However, if you purchase our Startup plan or higher, you can choose to pay for a 3, 6 or 12 month service in advance.

15. What content does Mecca allow? Any explicit adult based websites?
Question:
What content does Mecca allow? Any explicit adult based websites?
Answer:
Mecca only limits the content hosted on our servers if it violates International, Federal, State or local laws.

However please realize we reserve the right to censor any material hosted on our sites. We reserve the right to have the final opinion on such content as stated in our hosting agreement.

Web sites that have adult themes are welcome but must be reviewed by our Content Legal Department. Note that hosting picture/video posting forum with sexual content is prohibited. Please be sure that your website contains warning statement such as:

"Please note that by entering this site you are stating that you are 21 years of age or older, and will take full responsibility for your actions. We take this very seriously, and ask that you do, too. Thank you."

Mecca does not provide unlimited traffic to Subscribers who host sexual related websites. For any sexual related websites, Mecca covers only 10 GB of traffic each month for all hosting plans and additional traffic is CDN$12/GB/month.

Distributing copyrighted/illegal video clips and photos are NOT accepted and it is subject to cancellation of service without refund.

16. How fast are your connections?
Question:
How fast are your connections? Will I get faster traffic speed if I signup a higher plan?
Answer:
Our ehosting.ca servers have direct access to high-speed redundant OC48 connections to the Internet backbone which is over 1700 times faster than a T1 connection and 17 times faster than an OC-3 connection.

Our backbone has multiple upstream providers to guarantee zero packet loss (within our backbone) and uninterrupted transit to the Internet at all times.

In addition, our backbone has point of presence in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Jose, Chicago, New York, Ashburn and London and has direct network connection to major American backbones (such as Sprint, MCI, AT&T, Cable and Wireless) and major Canadian backbones (such as BCIX , QIX and TORIX) to guarantee superior speed and performance.

The speed of the hosting account will not go faster whether you purchase the expensive or inexpensive packages. All plans' traffic limits are the same.

By default, your website IP is being shared with other clients. However most of your site visitors would not notice the difference between shared IP and dedicated IP hosting.

However, for development or security purposes which requires the need for a dedicated IP for your website, you can contact support@mecca.ca and order a dedicated IP address at CAD$8 / month / IP.

Answer:
Account orders are placed in queue and are processed in the order of which they are received.

You will receive two emails from Mecca when you purchase hosting. The first email will be a confirmation of your selected hosting plan. Along in this email, there will also be tutorials in guilding you through uploaing your files and setting up your email accounts via our control panel.

Your site can be uploaded to our servers immediately after receiving our Welcome Email.

Should your domain is not registered with us, do be sure that you have pointed your domain DNS to our assigned nameserver settings. Otherwise, your website/email will not be functional even though you have uploaded your web files to our servers.

It will take 48 to 72 hours for the DNS change to become fully propagated throughout the Internet. Thus, should you have JUST changed your nameserver settings, your site will not be updated until the DNS change is completed.

52. What is a domain name and why do I need one?
Question:
What is a domain name and why do I need one?
Answer:
A domain name is your web address. When someone types your domain name into a web browser, your web pages will open. Behind the scenes, the domain name is actually pointing to a physical location (a server) that holds your web page files.

Each domain name is unique; therefore, it can only be assigned once to a single party on the web. A domain name is the first and most visible element of your online identity.

Business associates will identify with your domain name as a way of contacting or connecting with you and/or your company either through email or your web site.

The more closely your domain resembles your offline corporate identity (e.g. your company name, your USP or your marketing tagline) the easier it will be for people to remember it and the more it will be used.

53. What's the difference between .com, .net, .org, etc.?
Question:
What is the difference between .com, .net, .org, and others?
Answer:
[*] .com represents the word "commercial" and is used for company businesses or personal sites.

[*] .net represents the word "network" and is recommended for companies involved in Internet Service Providers, Web-hosting companies or other businesses that are directly involved in the Internet.

[*] .org represents the word "organization" and is recommended for non-profit organizations.

[*] .biz is used for small business Web sites.

[*] .info is recommended for businesses that signify a "resource" Web site.

[*] .ca is for Canadian Web sites and has been out in the Internet for over 3 years.

[*] .cc was orginally the country code for Coco's Keeling Islands. However, it is unrestricted and may be registered by anyone from any country now.

[*] .tv is for rich content/multi-media Web sites, commonly used within the entertainment or media industry.

Though these are general guidelines, you may use any of these extensions when registering a domain name. If you want to be sure no one else can benefit from your domain name, it's a good idea to register all three variations of your domain name.

56. A Note Regarding .CA Domains
Question:
A Note Regarding .CA Domains
Answer:
Please note that registrants must meet the Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants in order to qualify for a .CA domain. In simple terms, this means that the registrant must:

[*] live or do business in Canada,

[*] be a Canadian Citizen or have a Canadian postal address.

During the registration process, be mindful of the relationship between the Organization name and the Legal Type of the organization in Step 3.

If you select "Canadian Corporation" as the Legal Type, it requires a government recognized company or corporation to be entered in the "Organization" field (i.e., the organization name must have Inc. Corp., Ltd., etc., in the name).

If you select Canadian Citizen as the Legal Type, it requires the primary contact's first name and last name to be entered in the "Full Name" field as well as the "Organization" field.

If your organization doesn't fall into either of these categories, the best choice is Canadian Citizen as the Legal Type and then enter "first and last name" in the Organization field. Refer to the Canadian Presence Requirements for Registrants for all legal types and for additional examples.

Some .CA domain names may appear as available but may be reserved for government use, or may be reserved for the owner of one or more third-level (domain.on.ca) or fourth-level domains (domain.toronto.on.ca). In either of these cases, our domain registrar (OpenSRS) and us will contact you to inform and advise. The CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority) may require confirming documentation for domains registered for municipal use. In this case, CIRA will email you with a special instructions.

IMPORTANT: All .CA domain registrations require confirmation with CIRA and acceptance of the .CA Registration Agreement. Monitor your email after submitting your .CA domain registration. You will receive an email from CIRA with instructions you must follow in order to complete your registration. CIRA will cancel a .CA domain registration that is not confirmed within 7 days of submission.

Question:

[*] a copy of the government issued photo ID (Driver License, Passport etc),
[*] the domain name,
[*] the new admin contact email address.

62. Some users are unable to send me emails. Please help.
Question:
Some users are unable to send me emails. Please help.
Answer:
Mecca ehosting.ca does not block other mail servers with the exception that we actively block China's and Korea's IP addresses that are known to be broadcasting spams.

Mail receiving problems can be due to the originating mail server itself or the originating mail server's DNS and/or connectivity problem.

If you believe that there are users who cannot send emails to our servers, please send us an email at support@mecca.ca with the below information:

- Mail sender's email address along with the time/date the email was sent;
- If the sender received a bounced back message, please have it forwarded to us.

If you can get a hold of originating mail server's administrator, please ask them to contact noc@mecca.ca with the below information:

- A traceroute report from their mail server
- Mail server log segments reflecting that their mail server cannot connect to our server with the SMTP error code or message.

Our mail server abuse policy can be found at http://ehosting.ca/abuse

63. Does Mecca provide virus scanning on incoming emails?
Question:
Does Mecca provide virus scanning on incoming emails?
Answer:
Although we highly recommend clients to install decent Anti-virus software on their computers, we do have some basic virus filtering rules implemented at our server level:
- Email attachments with .pif/.scr/.vbs are automatically purged. They will never be delivered to your mailbox;

- Our spam filter attempts to catch bogus 'virus warnings'. Bogus 'virus warning' are marked as "Suspected Spam" in your mailbox.

Keep in mind that the above virus filtering rules are not meant to replace the Anti-Virus software in your computer.

For those clients who do not have Anti-virus software installed, we suggest to purchase Anti-virus software from McAfee (http://www.mcafee.com) or Symantec (http://www.symantec.com). From our experiences, McAfee seems to be able to detect and clean viruses more accurately.

64. Can the Spam Filter automatically delete all emails marked as "Suspected Spam"?
Question:
Can the Spam Filter automatically delete all emails marked as "Suspected Spam"?
Answer:
We could implement this at server level but we have chosen not to.

While our Spam Filter (SpamAssassin) is very good at picking out a large proportion of spam, it's impossible for a computer to do this job perfectly. You should only delete mail if you (and your users/customers) would find it acceptable to lose mail that might be legitimate.

Please visit this FAQ http://www.ehosting.ca/faq/faq.php?display=faq&nr=145&catnr=6&prog=1&lang=en&onlynewfaq=1 and learn how to setup message filters to work with Spamassassin.

65. I am receiving junk emails (spam), how do I eliminate them?
Question:
I am receiving junk emails (spam). How do I eliminate them?
Answer:
We have an advanced spam detection system, Spam Assassin, in place. Every spam identified by our system will be marked as "SUSPECTED SPAM" in the subject of the spam.

The sensitivity level of the spam detection system can be adjusted via our Control Panel -> Email Accounts Management -> Spam Detection Settings.

You can then set which email address you want to allow or deny from there.

If you define an email address in ALLOW mode, this means that it will bypass our spamassissan system.

If you define an email address in DENY mode, this means that email sent from this address will be caught by our spamassissan system and emails from this address will be marked as SUSPECTED SPAM.

The default sensitivity level of the spam detection system should be able to filter out around 70%-80% of spam.

You can then use Message Filters (offered by our webmail and almost all third party email programs) to filter out the SPAMs identified by our system.

Should you wish to delete the spam emails, you must identify your deleting/filtering rules. Please log onto our webmail --> Options --> Filters --> Edit your filter rules. You can then define your filter emails description as:

Filed: Subject
Text: Suspected SPAM
Action: Delete Message

When the spam message arrives at your mailbox, it will be crossed symbolizing the message has been deleted. However, you must click the "purge delete" button to fully remove the message from your mailbox.

Or proceed the following via our webmail:

1. goto "Options" --> "Delete and Moving Messages"
2. check "When deleting messages, move them to your Trash folder instead of marking them as deleted."
3. click on save options
4. back to "Options" --> "Maintenance Operations"
5. check "Perform maintenance operations on login"
6. check "Purge old message in the Trash folder"
7. for "Purge Trash how often" please choose "Every login"
8. click on save options

Please also refer to other of our FAQs in relates to spam control:

1. Spammer has used my email for spamming.
2. AntiSpam Tips.

Although spamming from external source is beyond our control, our team has been working very hard to fight against spammers from all over the world.

66. I can't send out any emails, it says "Host Not Found" or "Relaying Denied"?
Question:
I can't send out any emails, it says "Host Not Found" and/or "Relaying Denied, Proper authentication required"
Answer:
If you are using Outlook or Outlook Express to send your emails, please be sure that you have ticked the box showing "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."

You can refer to one of the below tutorials for setting up your email program to work with our servers:

Microsoft Outlook Express:
http://www.ehosting.ca/support/outlookexp

Microsoft Outlook:
http://www.ehosting.ca/support/outlook

Microsoft Eudora:
http://www.ehosting.ca/support/eudora

However, should you have completed the above step but still cannot send out emails. A great possibility is that your ISP may have blocked you from using a foreign SMTP server.

Some ISPs (For example, Sympatico, Rogers, Shaw, Sprint Canada, AOL and Telus) restrict people to use foreign SMTP server for outgoing mails (that is, they block external port 25 for traffic) because they do not want their users to use other SMTP servers to do spamming and/or spoofing.

However, you are still able to receive emails as receiving emails relies on different ports, for POP3, it is TCP Port 110 and for IMAP4, it is TCP Port 143.

Nevertheless, here are several workarounds for the above problem:

1) Use your ISP provided SMTP server for your outgoing emails.

Or

2) Configure your email program to connect our mail server at port 587 instead of port 25.

Or

3) Use our webmail at http://mail.ehosting.ca.

Please also visit our Email Troubleshooting FAQ.

67. What is the MECCA bulk email policy?
Question:
What is the MECCA bulk email policy?
Answer:
If you want to use our mail server to send out bulk emails, you will have to send them no more than 100 email addresses at once.

If this is not what you are looking for, you will have to use your ISP provided SMTP server to send out bulk emails. The reason is as follows:

There are increasing number of ISPs (such as Sympatico, AOL, Sprint and Telus) who do not allow their users to connect to foreign SMTP servers anymore. Eventually you will not be able to use any SMTP servers to send out your emails except your ISP provided one. They do this for network abuse control.

Please also read this FAQ http://www.ehosting.ca/faq/faq.php?display=faq&nr=310&catnr=6&prog=1&lang=en&onlynewfaq=1 for our policy on email broadcasting.

68. I experience timeout errors when sending out large amount of emails
Question:
I experience timeout errors when sending out large amount of emails / I want to send SPAMs with your mail server / I want to send out massive emails with your mail server
Answer:
Sending out large amount of emails requires a very long session between your computer and our mail server and due to the technical design of current email programs, email programs would terminate prolonged sessions.

Note that Mecca ehosting.ca does not allow any spamming nor untargeted email broadcasting as per our Terms of Service.

We also do not allow any prolonged SMTP connection that would increase the CPU load and freeze the server.

To broadcast emails, it is recommended that you use your ISP provided SMTP server instead of our mail servers and for the "FROM" header of your email, it must be an email address that is *not* served by us (such as your.name@hotmail.com) or an email address that is non-existent (such as do-not-reply@yourdomain.com).

69. AntiSpam Tips
Question:
AntiSpam Tips
Answer:
Do NOT respond to the spam mail, even if a "remove my name" reply address is present. These "remove" addresses are usually fake; in most cases the sending address is fake as well. Sometimes the "remove" address just acts to collect valid email addresses for future spam mailings.

1. Guard your in-box.
Don't give out your email address to anyone but the people you actually expect to correspond with. For dealing with everyone else, see tips 2-4.

2. Use free Web mail accounts.
For merchants and legit others you don't correspond with regularly, use Web mail, such as Hotmail’s or Yahoo!’s. You can abandon it if it gets spammed. Many have spam filtering built in.

3. Use a disposable email address.
Disposable email addresses are great inbox insulators. Give them out in place of your real address, which remains hidden. You can always dispose of the address if it gets spammed.

4. Use fake addresses.
Most Web-based signup forms require an email address, but ask yourself, do they really need it? If you don’t want to hear from the site (and don’t need a confirmation email or tech support), don’t give a real address.

5. Don’t post your address.
Resist the impulse to post it on Web sites, guest books, contact lists, newsgroups, chat rooms, and so on; spammers harvest from these places. If you absolutely must reveal yourself, use a Web mail account or a DEA. You can also put something extra in your email that humans will know how to read but harvesting robots won’t: billy@makeup.com could become billy AT makeup Dot com.

6. Don’t answer spam. Ever. You won’t stop spam by writing to the spammers, even if you ask nicely. At best, you’ll flame a robot, which won’t mind. At worst, you’ll confirm that your email address belongs to a naïve human being—a valuable commodity for spammers. Ignore the “remove me” email addresses, too. Many of these lead to dead or inactive email addresses.

7. Opt out.
When you do signup for or buy something online and you have to give out an email address, remember to opt out of everything you’re not absolutely sure you want to receive.

8. Read the privacy policy.
Make sure you understand what a Web site promises to do (and not to do) with your email address. If there’s no privacy policy, see tips 2-4.

9. Use a spam filter.
Even if you follow tips1-8, you’re going to get spam. If you get more than you can handle, try to install one of the spam filtering software.

70. What do I do if I receive email that I believe is in eHosting.ca network?
Question:
What do I do if I receive email that I believe is hosted on one of Mecca eHosting.ca servers or in the Mecca eHosting.ca network?
Answer:
[*] First, make sure the sender's email is not a spoofed address by checking the headers.

(Spoofing is using a return email address which is not the valid reply address of the sender or sending an email message which does not contain enough information to enable the recipient to identify the party who is really sending the message.)

To learn how to read the message source/header of an email visit http://spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html.

[*] If you believe a Mecca eHosting.ca customer is in violation of our Use Policy, please forward the mail in question, including the headers if at all possible to abuse@mecca.ca. Our Client Care Staffs will immediately begin an investigation and will take all necessary actions required according to our Use Policy, including suspension and if deemed appropriate, termination of the violator's account.

71. What is Mecca eHosting.ca's Policy on Spam?
Question:
What is Mecca eHosting.ca's Policy on Spam?
Answer:
Mecca eHosting.ca has a ZERO Tolerance policy for spam mail or spammers hosted on our servers or in our network. Any violation of these policies may result in immediate account termination or suspension without prior notification and without any refunds.

72. I cannot connect your IMAP server with Outlook 2003.
Question:
I cannot connect your IMAP server with Outlook 2003.
Answer:
Some (but not all) clients may experience problems connecting to our IMAP server with Outlook 2003.

This is actually a bug of Microsoft Outlook 2003. For details of this bug, please read http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=c8aa5f95.0312301905.52fd0037%40posting.google.com.

Basically when authenticate, Outlook 2003 sent a different password than the one you had programmed in Outlook 2003 that caused the login failure.

However we are unable to reproduce this bug with our copy of Microsoft Outlook 2003 as we are able to authenticate with our IMAP servers therefore we believe that this bug is not affecting all users.

Our IMAP server is tested with most mail software in the industry including Outlook 2000/XP, Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, Eudora, Microsoft Entourage, Apple OSX Mail and they are all known to work.

73. Email Troubleshooting
Question:
Email Troubleshooting
Answer:
[1] I can not send out e-mails. Why?

a. The Outgoing (SMTP) server requires authentication. If you are using Outlook Express/Outlook, you should check the box 'My server requires authentication'. In Eudora it is 'Authentication allowed'.

b. Your SMTP (outgoing mail server) could be blocked.

- If you are behind a firewall, we may be unable to authenticate you. If you have a personal firewall, try lowering the security.
- Call your ISP and ask if they block people sending through remote SMTP's. Some are doing that, though relatively few.
- You can use your ISP's SMTP server. In your email client, put the SMTP server that you use to send out your ISP email, and your email will still appear with your domain name. Also see the error messages explanations.

[2] My password does not work. What am I to do?

a. Go to your hosting account control panel and change the mailbox password via Email Account Managment.

b. Make sure that you're logging in with the proper case user id / password.

[3] Error: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'youraccount', Server: 'www.yourdomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

You are on a an ISP that blocks their users using any SMTP server other than their own. Your solution is as follows:

To set up your ISP's SMTP servers for your outgoing email you must click on your account settings in the email client you are using (Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape etc.)

In the SMTP (outgoing mail server) field you will enter whatever your dial up or direct access ISP's SMTP server is as your SMTP server. You must then enter your ISP's username and password for that mail server.

In Outlook Express it is at the bottom of that same tab. You must uncheck 'My server requires authentication' and click on 'settings' to enter your ISP's username and password.

Your email will still be from your own domain name, the only difference is in the way it is routed throughout the Internet. Instead of being sent through our servers it is processed through your ISP's servers. This allows your ISP to monitor its users.

[4] Outlook: The host 'yourdomain.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'yourdomain.com', Server: 'yourdomain.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0

The POP3/IMAP (incoming mail server) is incorrectly typed.

[5] Outlook: There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'yourdomain.com', Server: 'yourdomain.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Password failed for email1', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:

a. The POP3/IMAP account name (mailbox name) is not correct.

b. The POP3/IMAP password is not correct.

[6] Outlook: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'yourdomain.com', Server: 'yourdomain.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 11, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

It is using the wrong port number.

Go to 'Tools' -> 'Accounts...' -> 'Mail' -> 'Properties' -> 'Advanced'. Change the POP3 (incoming mail server) port number to 110. If you are using IMAP as incoming mail server, change the port number to 143.

[7] Outlook: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'yourdomain', Server: 'yourdomain', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Outlook Express is trying to use SSL.

Go to 'Tools' -> 'Accounts...' -> 'Mail' -> 'Properties' -> 'Advanced'. Uncheck the option to use Secure(SSL).

[8] Outlook: Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'yourdomain', Server: 'yourdomain', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Command unknown: AUTH', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number

Outlook Express is setup to use Secure Password Authentication.

Go to 'Tools' -> 'Accounts...' -> 'Mail' -> 'Properties' -> 'Servers'. Uncheck the option for Secure Password Authentification.

[9] 554 5.0.0 rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset canonify

These errors usually result if you have maillist or autoresponders with the same name as the user from which you are trying to send.

Usually when receiving this error its one of two things:
[*] Either the address you sent to was invalid OR
[*] You had an autoresponder or maillist with the same name as the address sent from

75. What's IMAP? What are the differences between webmail, POP3 and IMAP4?
Question:
What's IMAP? What are the differences between webmail, POP3 and IMAP4?
Answer:
IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. All our email accounts support POP3, IMAP4 and webmail.

IMAP's biggest advantage is that mail is stored on the server; you can read e-mails at one PC, then later read them at another PC. Messages you’ve read earlier on the first PC will show up as being read. IMAP offers storage and filing options, where new mail arrives in the "Inbox" folder. You can create other folders and manage your messages.

POP3 was designed for single users to read their e-mails from one machine using one mailbox only. POP stores incoming e-mail on our mail server until you log on to your computer and enter your e-mail program. E-mail is then downloaded onto your computer and is deleted from our mail server. This releases your free space on the service to receive additional messages.

Our webmail works similarly to IMAP, however, our webmail supports advanced email features such as spam control, message filters, language translator, quicksave when composing emails, POP3 mail fetching, email forwarding and vacation message setup. The benefit to using webmail is that you can access your mailboxes and mail folders with any modern web browsers.

76. Spammer has used my email address for spamming. Help!
Question:
Spammer has used my email address for spamming. Help!
Answer:
It is most likely that someone has your email address in their address book got infected with Klez and is unknowingly spreading the virus to everyone they've ever sent or received email from.

There is a variant of the Klez (an email worm) that looks though explorer's cache for e-mail, so someone having visited a page with your e-mail, having been infected, might also be the cause.

In addition, there are many ways in which spammers can get your email address. The ones I know of are :

1. From posts to UseNet with your email address.
Spammers regularily scan UseNet for email address, using ready made programs designed to do so. Some programs just look at articles headers which contain email address (From:, Reply-To:, etc), while other programs check the articles' bodies, starting with programs that look at signatures, through programs that take everything that contain a '@' character and attempt to demunge munged email addresses.

There have been reports of spammers demunging email addresses on occasions, ranging from demunging a single address for purposes of revenge spamming to automatic methods that try to unmunge email addresses that were munged in some common ways.

As people who where spammed frequently report that spam frequency to their mailbox dropped sharply after a period in which they did not post to UseNet, as well as evidence to spammers' chase after 'fresh' and 'live' addresses, this technique seems to be the primary source of email addresses for spammers.

2. From mailing lists.
Spammers regularily attempt to get the lists of subscribers to mailing lists [some mail servers will give those upon request], knowing that the email addresses are unmunged and that only a few of the addresses are invalid.

A different technique used by spammers is to request a mailing lists server to give him the list of all mailing lists it carries (an option implemented by some mailing list servers for the convenience of legitimate users), and then send the spam to the mailing list's address, leaving the server to do the hard work of forwarding a copy to each subscribed email address.

[I know spammers use this trick from bad experience - some spammer used this trick on the list server of the company for which I work, easily covering most of the employees, including employees working well under a month and who's email addresses would be hard to find in other ways.]

3. From web pages.
Spammers have programs which spider through web pages, looking for email addresses, e.g. email addresses contained in mailto: HTML tags [those you can click on and get a mail window opened]

Some spammers even target their mail based on web pages. I've discovered a web page of mine appeared in Yahoo as some spammer harvested email addresses from each new page appearing in Yahoo and sent me a spam regarding that web page.

4. From various web and paper forms.
Some sites request various details via forms, e.g. guest books & registrations forms. Spammers can get email addresses from those either because the form becomes available on the world wide web, or because the site sells / gives the emails list to others.

Some companies would sell / give email lists filled in on paper forms, e.g. organizers of conventions would make a list of participants' email addresses, and sell it when it's no longer needed.

Domain name registration forms are a favourite as well - addresses are most usually correct and updated, and people read the emails sent to them expecting important messages.

5. Via an Ident daemon.
Many unix computers run a daemon (a program which runs in the background, initiated by the system administrator), intended to allow other computers to identify people who connect to them.

When a person surfs from such a computer connects to a web site or news server, the site or server can connect the person's computer back and ask that daemon's for the person's email address.

Some chat clients on PCs behave similarily, so using IRC can cause an email address to be given out to spammers.
6. From a web browser.
Some sites use various tricks to extract a surfer's email address from the web browser, sometimes without the surfer noticing it. Those techniques include :

[1] Making the browser fetch one of the page's images through an anonymous FTP connection to the site. Some browsers would give the email address the user has configured into the browser as the password for the anonymous FTP account. A surfer not aware of this technique will not notice that the email address has leaked.

[2] Using JavaScript to make the browser send an email to a chosen email address with the email address configured into the browser. Some browsers would allow email to be sent when the mouse passes over some part of a page. Unless the browser is properly configured, no warning will be issued.

[3] Using the HTTP_FROM header that browsers send to the server. Some browsers pass a header with your email address to every web server you visit. To check if your browser simply gives your email address to everybody this way, visit http://www.helie.com/BrowserCheck/

7. From IRC and chat rooms.
Some IRC clients will give a user's email address to anyone who cares to ask it. Many spammers harvest email addresses from IRC, knowing that those are 'live' addresses and send spam to those email addresses.

This method is used beside the annoying IRCbots that send messages interactively to IRC and chat rooms without attempting to recognize who is participating in the first place.

This is another major source of email addresses for spammers, especially as this is one of the first public activities newbies join, making it easy for spammers to harvest 'fresh' addresses of people who might have very little experience dealing with spam.

AOL chat rooms are the most popular of those - according to reports there's a utility that can get the screen names of participants in AOL chat rooms. The utility is reported to be specialized for AOL due to two main reasons - AOL makes the list of the actively participating users' screen names available and AOL users are considered prime targets by spammers due to the reputation of AOL as being the ISP of choice by newbies.

8. From finger daemons.
Some finger daemons are set to be very friendly - a finger query asking for john@host will produce list info including login names for all people named John on that host. A query for @host will produce a list of all currently logged-on users.

Spammers use this information to get extensive users list from hosts, and of active accounts - ones which are 'live' and will read their mail soon enough to be really attractive spam targets.

9. By guessing and cleaning.
Some spammers guess email addresses, send a test message (or a real spam) to a list which includes the guessed addresses. Then they wait for either an error message to return by email, indicating that the email address is correct, or for a confirmation. A confirmation could be solicited by inserting non-standard but commonly used mail headers requesting that the delivery system and/or mail client send a confirmation of delivery or reading. No news are, of coures, good news for the spammer.

Guessing could be done based on the fact that email addresses are based on people's names, usually in commonly used ways (first.last@domain or an initial of one name followed / preceded by the other @domain)

Also, some email addresses are standard - postmaster is mandated by the RFCs for internet mail. Other common email addresses are postmaster, hostmaster, root [for unix hosts], etc.

10. From white and yellow pages.
There are various sites that serve as white pages, sometimes named people finders web sites. Yellow pages now have an email directory on the web.

Spammers go through those directories in order to get email addresses. Most directories prohibit email address harvesting by spammers, but as those databases have a large databases of email addresses + names, it's a tempting target for spammers.

11. From a previous owner of the email address.
An email address might have been owned by someone else, who disposed of it. This might happen with dialup usernames at ISPs - somebody signs up for an ISP, has his/her email address harvested by spammers, and cancel the account. When somebody else signs up with the same ISP with the same username, spammers already know of it.

Similar things can happen with AOL screen names - somebody uses a screen name, gets tired of it, releases it. Later on somebody else might take the same screen name.

As spammers not caring too much for invalid addresses, and with lists of email addresses burned on CDs and sold, this scenario is probable.

Please note that this problem has nothing to imply with our server performance or functionality.

78. How come there are delays for people receiving my e-mails?
Question:
How come there are delays for people receiving my e-mails?
Answer:
Please note that mail delays could be due to a lot of reasons that are beyond our control. This can be due to temporarily network/backbone problems, routing problems and the receiver ISP's SMTP server problems therefore it is not always our server/network at fault.

Typically most mail servers will keep trying to send the emails in queue for 3-5 days, so eventually your recipient will receive the emails.

79. Why can't I create login IDs such as "info@", "john@", "webmaster@"...?
Question:
Why can't I create login IDs such as "info@", "john@", "webmaster@"...?
Answer:
Should you wish to setup login IDs as "info", "webmaster", "john", etc., and encountered an error message saying that these login IDs have been taken in our system, please then set these email addresses as "virtual email addresses".

All you need to do is create a *unique* login ID and have these email addresses aliased to this unique login ID.

You can still use "info@yourdomain.com" or "john@yourdomain.com", just that you are using other username/login ID when logging into our webmail or other third party email programs.

Please visit our tutorial at http://www.ehosting.ca/customerService/tutorials/createEmail/createEmail.php --> Step 6 onward for creating email alias or virtual emails.

82. What do you mean by "virtual" email and "real" email?
Question:
What do you mean by "virtual" email and "real" email?
Answer:
Virtual email accounts are also known as email 'alias' accounts.

An Email Alias simply forwards email messages to another location. Email alias does NOT have its own storage space, username, and password and must be associated with another email address (REAL email account). Users who prefer to use a separate email account to read messages (different from the Alias) often choose this route.

If you are currently reading email through your Internet Service Provider, you may choose to direct all email addresses to that existing account. For example, if you are a current AOL customer, have a domain hosted by us called abc.com and would like email messages forwarded to your AOL account, you would setup an Email Alias as follows:

you@abc.com => you@aol.com

Email Aliases also have the advantage of sending to more than one address. You can use an Alias to distribute email messages to a group of people.

To setup email forwarding, please log onto our webmail --> Account Forward.

91. How is the shared SSL folders mapped on your systems?
Question:
How is the shared SSL folders mapped on your systems?
Answer:
By default, your SSL link is as follows:

https://ssl.ehosting.ca/yourdomain.com/www

The above address corresponds to your /yourdomain.com/www folder in FTP.
The non-SSL URL that links to the same location is http://www.yourdomain.com

Or similarly:

If you have a folder called "forms" in www folder, the URL would be:

https://ssl.ehosting.ca/yourdomain.com/www/forms

The non-SSL URL that links to the same location is http://www.yourdomain.com/forms/

Or similarly:

If you have a sub-domain called "shop.yourdomain.com". the URL would be:

https://ssl.ehosting.ca/yourdomain.com/shop/

The non-SSL URL that links to the same location is http://shop.yourdomain.com

The SSL feature will be $6.00 * your hosting term or remaining term. At this rate, you will be able to access our 128-bit SSL server and usage to our SHARED SSL certificate.

You can use any programming languages to design your order forms, however you may need to find a script (in PHP, ASP, Perl or ColdFusion) in which the form results would be delivered to you via email or saved in a database.

Should you wish to subscribe to this feature, you can log onto our control panel (if you are our UNIX clients) at http://cpanel.ehosting.ca --> "Order Features". Or send us an email to support@mecca.ca.

When the SSL feature is subscribed, you can upload your files to anywhere within your www folder in your ftp account.

92. I have problems with uploading
Question:
I have problems with uploading and I am sure my FTP hostname, username and password are correct.
Answer:
To diagnostic your uploading problem, try to download a copy of CuteFTP (as it works better) at http://www.cuteftp.com and see if it would resolve the problem.

On the other hand, your ISP or your router/firewall is blocking TCP port 21. For FTP, TCP port 20 and 21 must open so that FTP traffic can go through.

You can try to play around the "Connection Type" setting in your FTP program. In particular you should try to switch to "PASV" or "Passive FTP" under Connection Type in your FTP program and see if it helps. In most cases, switching from PORT to PASV will solve the problem fully.

93. I am using Accesscomm.ca and I cannot login your control panel
Question:
I am using Accesscomm.ca's and I cannot login your control panel.
Answer:
We actually communicated with Accesscomm.ca's network administrator in 2004 and they admitted that they have blocked TCP port 8888 for their internal use.

Note that not all Accesscomm's clients are affected by this issue.

As a work around, we have opened TCP 8887 as a backdoor and you can contact our Client Care Team at support@mecca.ca for our alternate TCP port 8887 hosting control panel link.

94. What are my bulk email broadcasting options?
Question:
What are my bulk email broadcasting options?
Answer:
We no longer support Majordomo as Majordomo contains security hole which will allow email worms to be spreaded when one of your mailing list members' computer is inflected by virus.

For starters, we suggest to use email programs like Outlook Express and set the recipients into groups via their provided address book. As long as you adjust the timeout limit from default 1 minute to 5 minutes and you send out not more than 100 email addresses at the same time, you should be just fine.

For more advanced users, please check out PHP Easyletter at http://www.onlinetools.org/tools/easyletter.php This PHP based mailing list program should be able to meet your needs.

Also keep in mind that Mecca ehosting.ca does not allow any spamming nor untargeted email broadcasting as per our Terms of Service.

We have right to suspend or terminate anyone's account for sending unsolicited bulk emails.

95. Why your server time is in EST time zone?
Question:
Why your server time is in EST time zone? I want to change it to my local time zone!
Answer:
Our server time has been set to EST (Easten Standard Time) since year 2000 this is due to the fact that over 90% of our clients are from Eastern US/Canada.

However this should not cause so much issue here as most web applications nowadays are time zone friendly.

If they are not, you should be able to patch them easily.

A sample PHP code is as follows assuming that you need the server time reported in PST (Pacific Standard Time):

$now = strtotime('-3 hours');
$nowstr = strftime('%D %T', $now);
print "now unix timestamp: $now
now (formatted): $nowstr";

For sample code in other programming languages, Mecca does not provide them but it is not hard to develop your own. Please search for Google for inspiration.

96. How do I setup Windows Media and Real Media Audio/Video Streaming?
Question:
How do I setup Windows Media and Real Media Audio/Video Streaming?
Answer:
We do support HTTP streaming.

1. Windows Media Streaming:

This is a tutorial page from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/webserver.aspx#webserver_topic3 that guides you in setting HTTP streaming. Please look at the section of "Preparing Your Content."

2. Real Media Streaming:

a. CREATE RM OR RAM FILE

Create a compressed RealMedia file (.RM)
Open the free RealProducer software (obtainable from the link below)

Open your audio or video file from this program and select an adequate compression setting for this video file

For this example, the RealMedia file will be named and saved as: Real_Media_File.rm

You can get the RealProducer Software at http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Web_Authoring/Multimedia_Web_Authoring_Tools/RealProducer_7_0.html.

b. CREATE REALMEDIA METAFILE

In order for a RealMedia file to be viewed on your website, a RealAudio Metafile needs to be created.

For the example below, the RealAudio Metafile will be named and saved as: Real_Audio_Metafile.ram

The contents of this Real_Audio_Metafile.ram file would have the following line in it:
http://www.sitename.com/Real_Media_File.rm

NOTE: There is only a single line of coding within in this RealAudio Metafile. You must also press the ENTER key at the end of that line for this file to work.

c. CREATE HTML PAGE

A .HTML file needs to be created and must possess a link, within its source code, to the Real_Audio_Metafile.ram file. For this example, this web page will be named and saved as: webpage.html . This webpage.html can have the content in its source code (which can be entered through a text editor like Notepad:

{HTML}
{HEAD}{TITLE}Streaming RealMedia Example{/TITLE}{/HEAD}
{BODY}
{A HREF="http://www.sitename.com/Real_Audio_Metafile.ram"}Click on this link to see a streaming video.{/A}
{/BODY}
{/HTML}

Please replace all {} brackets with <>

d. UPLOAD YOUR .RM, .RAM, and .HTML FILES TO SITE

Please ensure that you upload the .RM file in “Binary” mode (via a FTP program). The .RAM and .HTML must be uploaded in “ASCII” or TEXT mode (via a FTP program). These files must be uploaded to your main WWW folder on your site.

You may also want to make sure that you have RealPlayer installed on your computer. You can download the RealPlayer Software at http://www.real.com/realone/index.html?lang=en&loc=us.

e. TEST YOUR REALAUDIO/REALVIDEO FILE ON SITE

Test your Streaming RealAudio/RealVideo file by going to your web page (ex: http://www.sitename.com/Webpage.html)

For more information you may refer to the RealAudio website's knowledge base at: http://service.real.com/help/library/blueprints/hosthtml/webhost.htm

If you cannot complete the above tutorial for any reasons, please consider to reset your FrontPage extensions via "FrontPage Extensions Setting" in Control Panel.

98. What I have to do in order to get my site online?
Question:
What I have to do in order to get my site online?
Answer:
You account is set up right after you submit the sign-up form. An e-mail will be sent to you including your login information, password and your access information for our Members services.

You can begin uploading files to your new virtual hosting account immediately. You will be given a location to access your site by way of FTP and the Web prior to the completion of your domain registration or transfer.

If you already have a website created on your hard disk you can upload it into your virtual host or domain directory.

In order to set a starting page to the directory you must upload an 'index.html' file (or 'index.cgi', or 'index.php', or visit here).

99. My script is giving me this error 'Internal Server error'. Why is that?
Question:
My script is giving me this error 'Internal Server error'. Why is that?
Answer:
PHP and Perl scripts requires permissions so the server can execute them correctly. If you are getting this error than it means that you have not set the correct premissions.

The required permissions are as follows:
PHP scripts - chmod 755 filename.php
Perl scripts - chmod 755 filemane.cgi

Changing premissions can be done via FTP or inside the FileManager.

To change permissions through FTP select the file and do this commands: 'chmod 755'. Or you can use the File Manager for the purpose.

Please note that setting the folders to 755 will not set the files to 755. They will remain 644, until you select all PHP and Perl files and set them to 755.

Please visit our tutorial: Install Perl-CGI scripts to your website for detail assistance.

100. What are the parameters that I need to enter in my scripts for using the MySQL
Question:
What are the parameters that I need to enter in my scripts for using the MySQL database?
Answer:
Mysql server host: localhost
Mysql server port: 3306
Database name: userdb_yourMeccaID
username: your account username
password: your account password

An email with your account information will be sent to your administrative email address shortly after your subscription to MySQL DB.

To manage your SQL database, simply login control panel -> MySQL admin with
the above login information.

You can also control your tables with phpMyAdmin.

To learn more about using MySQL database, there is a very good tutorial of MySQL located on their own site. Please read it at http://www.mysql.com/documentation/mysql/bychapter/manual_Tutorial.html for more details.

What are the parameters that I need to enter in my scripts for using the MySQL database?

101. What is FTP? Are there any FTP programs that I can use for files uploading?
Question:
What is FTP? Are there any FTP programs that I can use for files uploading?
Answer:
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is a protocol used to transfer files from one computer to another. You can perform FTP action by using a command prompt, or a FTP programsuch as CuteFTP. All our hosting packages provide unlimited FTP access 24/7.

A FTP program is a program that allows you to connect to your site and upload and manage the files that are stored on your site. The most popular programs are:

 [*]CUTE_FTP
 [*]WS_FTP

Trial versions of both can be downloaded from:
http://www.cuteftp.com
http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm

There's also some free FTP programs:

 [*]MS_FTP (offer by Microsoft);
 [*]Our Webmail FTP (please visit our control panel for this function)

You can also use FrontPage or Dreamweaver to upload your files.

Tutorials on files uploading can be found at http://www.ehosting.ca/customerService/tutorials.php.

102. What is web statistics? How do I access this feature?
Question:
What is web statistics? How do I access this feature?
Answer:
Web Statistics is a detailed report explaining your site's usage by sessions, hits, page views, kilobytes, session time and more. Review your statistics by day, by week, by month and even by year.

Should you have subscribed to this feature, you can log onto our Control Panel at http://cpanel.ehosting.ca --> Web Statistics.

FYI, you may see two different links; "Check Web Statistics" and "Old Web Statistics" via our control panel depending on the time you signed up for this feature. The old web statistics records from the day you subscribed to web statistics to 6/9/2003 while the new statistics records from 6/10/2003 and onwards.

Please note that the old stats and the new stats contain two different data format and is not technically possible to convert the old stats data to the new stats interface.

103. What is CGI access? Where should I put Perl-CGI scripts?
Question:
What is CGI access? Where should I put Perl-CGI scripts? Where is the CGI-BIN folder?
Answer:
CGI scripts (Common Gateway InterFace) are used to provide things like counters, form responses, guest books, etc. We give you full CGI access for no extra charge. You can write your own scripts, install someone else's, or use one of our preinstalled CGI scripts found via our Web Enhancements section at http://www.ehosting.ca/customerService/tutorials.php.

There is no desiginated CGI-BIN as you can upload your cgi scripts anywhere within the /www folder. You can even create a sub-folder under the www folder and store your cgi scripts there if you want.

Once again, for perl/cgi instructions, please refer to our Web Enhancements guide.

104. I have uploaded my page, but my browser is still showing the old version.
Question:
I have uploaded my page, but my web browser is still showing the old version.
Answer:
Your computer has cached your old website copy onto your hard drive.

To clear the cache, please follow the below steps:

Open up Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options

On the first tab "General", you should see a section named Temporary Internet Files, click on Settings button on there.

Settings dialog box should pop up, select "Every visit to the Pages" and reduce the cache size to 10 or 20 MB.

Click on Apply and OK.

Now visit the same page again, hold the CTRL button and click on the Refresh button of Internet Explorer several times and hopefully the old cached page would gone.

105. I forgot my password, how can I retreive the information again?
Question:
I forgot my password, how can I retreive the information again?
Answer:
Your username and password are included in the welcome email that were sent to your admin email address after your hosting account is setup.

There is also an automated password recovery system located on the login page of our Control Panel --> Change email account's password? --> Forget your password?

By submitting your "login name", our system will send your password to your registered admin email address.

Please note that passwords are case sensitive and are limited to 8 characters. If you entered a password longer than 8 characters please try entering the first 8 characters when logging into your control panel.

106. Why can't I view/FTP my website on my Internet browser?
Question:
Why can't I view/FTP my website on my Internet browser?
Answer:
The most common reasons why you cannot see your website are:

[*] You did not point your DNS to our nameserver settings.

[*] You have just changed your DNS (still within the 48-72 hours range). It takes time for the global Internet to recognize your DNS change.

[*] You did not name your first page as index.htm or index.html.

[*] You uploaded the content outside the correct directory. Make sure all files are resided within the created directory (yourdomain.com/www/) to be viewable via the Internet.

[*] You are using a different case (i.e. uppercase or lowercase) when accessing your files. If you are trying to access a file located at "image.gif", and in fact, it is actually named "image/Image.GIF" on your Web server, then the image will not load properly.

[*] Your computer/IE program/your ISP may have cached the old copy of your site. Please free out the cache if possible.

[*] Your domain name has been expired.

107. I can't find the answer I want from your FAQ list.
Question:
I can't find the answer I want from your FAQ list, Where do I go from here?
Answer:
You can send an email to support@mecca.ca.

108. I cannot get a FrontPage based form working.
Question:
I cannot get a FrontPage based form working. I am sure that FrontPage extension is in my account.
Answer:
Here is the fix:

1. Connect your FrontPage website with the instructions given at http://www.ehosting.ca/support/frontpage

2. Right after you have performed step #6 in the tutorial, click on the feedback form on the left pane

3. Right click with your mouse on form area on right pane, select "Form Properties"

4. Verify the settings in there and then go to File -Save in FrontPage.

This should fix it. If you are unable to complete Step 1 above, please visit Control Panel and have the FrontPage Extension reset. You can reset FrontPage extension via our "FrontPage Extension Setting" module in Control Panel (UNIX hosting only).

109. Do you restrict any tags for PHP or ASP or ColdFusion?
Question:
Do you restrict any tags for PHP, ASP or ColdFusion?
Answer:
No. We do not put any restrictions on our supported server side languages. This includes ASP, Perl, PHP, ColdFusion, SSI and .NET.

110. Why Folder Security and FrontPage extensions can not co-exist?
Question:
Why can't Folder Security and FrontPage extensions co-exist? My account has FrontPage extensions turned on and the Control Panel does not allow me to use Folder Security feature.
Answer:
FrontPage and Folder Security cannot co-exist due to technical limitation set by Microsoft.

The workaround is to create a sub-domain with our control panel, and have the FrontPage extension disabled on the particular sub-domain address (this can be done via our Control Panel). As soon as you disable FrontPage extensions on that sub-domain, you should be able to use our provided password protected feature from Control Panel.

111. What is PHP?
Question:
What is PHP?
Answer:
PHP is a sciprting language that is embeded witthin a page along with its HTML. Before the page is sent to a user that has requested it, the web server calls PHP to interpret and perform the operations called for in the PHP script.

If you are familiar with perl, C, C++ or Java, you have a good start on PHP.

112. How do I tell if a form is secure?
Question:
How do I tell if a form is secure?
Answer:
The main ingredient for a secure form is the resource that receives the data. So the actual form that contains the fields you fill in need not be secure, but where it submits to must be secure for the transaction to be secure.

To find out if the form is secure do the following:

1. View the source of the page and look at the form action attribute - this must start with https:// If not, look for a Javascript routine for formname.action="newurl", newurl must start with https://

If not, and there is no http:// preface, then the protocol is the same as the current page.

2. Check the url of the form (not necessarily the same as the location URL in the case of frames), this must be https://

If none of the above conditions are met, then the form on this page is not secure - its contents will travel across the Internet unencrypted, and its details visible.

However, even if the connection from your browser to the webserver is secure, there is no guarantee that your data is secure on the backend. The number of websites that use a bog-standard form mail script to email your data to an email address is staggering.

113. What are the differences and issues between Netscape and IE?
Question:
What are the differences and issues between Netscape and IE?
Answer:
This question is normally asked in conjunction with the question: How do I get my page to look identical in both browsers. Apart from the obvious - there is no such thing as both browsers - since the user has a choice of close to 600 browsers.

Typically, this question comes from designers that haven't quite got the grasp of the essence of hypertext media and its related HTML markup. HTML, by design, is a structural document markup. Document structure, not layout. With that in mind, HTML is seen as not a high level precision layout language, although Cascading Stylesheets give the web designer the ability to precisely position objects, with certain limitations.

On the basic level, the difference between Netscape and Internet Explorer is that Internet Explorer is more forgiving of markup errors. This forgiveness is a double-edged sword, in that Internet Explorer will not render what you ask, but render what it guesses you want to see. Normally this works out pretty well, but on the wrong occasion it gets things completely wrong.

Authoring Internet Explorer only type websites is contradictory to the spirit of the World Wide Web - which assumes nothing about networks, operating systems, browsers and user agents. To rely on certain "usability" features of Internet Explorer restricts the usage of your material to that particular browser.

One of the main rules of good web design is to never assume what the user has, and not to rely on features of one browser for your presentation. Breaking these rules will only rebound on the webmaster, and will damage the web-site's reputation in terms of quality.
The only reason to understand the differences between Netscape (4), and Internet Explorer is so that these differences can be avoided, rather than duplicating functionality for the sake of two browsers.

114. What does my Home page's first page need to be named?
Question:
What does my Home page's first page need to be named?
Answer:
Your home page can be named any of the following file names:

For plain HTML files:
index.html
index.htm
default.htm

For Server Side Includes (SSI) files:
index.shtml

For PHP files:
index.php
index.php4
index.php3
index.phtml

For Perl-CGI files:
index.cgi
index.pl

For ASP files:
default.asp
index.asp

For Coldfusion files:
index.cfm

Our servers will look for your home page starting at the top of the list and work its way down. If you do not have your home page named one of the above file names your site will not be displayed.

115. Do your servers support SSI (Server Side Includes)?
Question:
Do your servers support SSI (Server Side Includes)?
Answer:
SSI is supported if you are on Startup plan or above. You just need to be sure that you name your files with .shtml extension.

116. What is Perl?
Question:
What is Perl?
Answer:
Perl is a scripting language that excels in text processing and manipulation. Originally designed as a reporting language and as a glue language between two other incompatible scripting languages or programs it has found itself as the most used programming language for CGI scripts and programs.

Developed by a linguist, Perl's structure is very flexible, making it ideal for quick guest book scripts right through to application frameworks. It works with most languages and tools (like Tk - the GUI toolkit).
